Week 1 ++ on braces

First week, and 2 days. Been a little busy this recess week!

Well...the first 2-3 days after putting on braces were...quite painful! Especially the 2nd day where the teeth all started feeling extremely sore. Like having the entire front 16 +/- teeth all having toothaches at the same time. I found it hard to eat food.

I wanted to make note of the food I ate, but I can now only remember roughly. The first meal on the 2nd day was instant oatmeat+milk powder and soya bean milk. I simply cannot remember what I had on the 2nd day. But in short, the diet of the week was quite. amazing. In all likelyhood, I had yong tao fu on the 2nd day for dinner. The 3rd day being saturday, I had...yong tao fu again! - It's going to be my main choice for food for the days to come. On that very day, I had Cafe Cartel's St.Louis Pork Ribs. Amazing right?! I mean, I always thought people ate porridge and the likes for the first week or even 2nd week!

That was the start of my hard food(harder food) intake. I could say...I pretty much am able to resume normal diet. Except that I still feel a little ache at the front so I don't use much force in biting food with them, but rather using a pulling action to tear food and mainly chomp them with my molars.

So a suitable diet consists mainly of:
1) Oatmeal
2) Milk
3) Porridge
4) YONG TAO FU (healthy and easy to bite! food of e year award!)
5)Ribs, if you dare. Pretty soft actually if u use molars.
6)Burgers, bite using pre-molars
7) Chap Chai Peng or Mixed rice (dishes are bite sized usually...not a problem to use the molars)
8)---wait..that's basically everything!
9)Yes....that's if you have functioning, non-aching tooth like mine. I'm really thankful lol.

That's about all. No photos since movements can't be that soon, nor would it be obvious on photo.
Hope to post on time next thursday.
Okie!

Day 1: Feb 19th 2009 Thursday

W00t the day I have been waiting since Primary 6 has arrived!
I am FINALLY on braces!

Let me talk about my experience in the clinic.

This dentist is really no frills, chopchop do. Normally I read that they take about 40minutes to fit in the whole procedure. He took only about 20minutes. Anyway, it was fast, and I couldn't really see what was happening. By the time I knew it, I was asked to choose my bracket colours. I oh so wanted PINK badly, but I had to settle with BLUE since no PINK available. Anyway, the procedure is painless, except for the metal strand pocking my lower right end. Thankfully I asked him to cut it at the end of the procedure otherwise it's going to be hell for me.

Anyway...for my first meal with braces I had wanton mee. It was fine. No pain, nothing. Wait before that I had Mc.Flurry! Wow. Talk about forbidden fruit. (I should try to find a list of forbidden fruit for braces users some time when I'm free.) Mee got stuck inbetween the bands...I had all been prepared to brush my teeth, and I did! And they actually..hurt.

I felt confident of eating solid food, and I was very puzzled why people can't. I figured...maybe it was because I was accustomed to one week of bands, unlike most people who put them in rows, in a sitting or 2. And thus, I have my molars!

Alas, just after lecture at 530, I went to buy myself oatmeal cookies from Subway : my new favourites. Ouch. My front teeth all hurt trying to bite them. Thank God for molars! They are starting to hurt now. I retract my confidence just 9 hours earlier.
That's...quite about it for now... some pictures ( not well taken sadly ) for you guys :)

Yups. Can you see my little baby tooth at the top right (my left actually). Haha.
Let's see how much changes 7 months from now.. yay.

Week (T-1) - Putting on the bands.

Today is the day the stupid seperators (which stayed with me for one week) were removed. The blue rubber rings are now replaced with something more permanent. Yet for another 2 more years or so!

The experience the moment the Dr removed the seperators were relieving, however short-lived. The next thing i felt was that he was trying different sizes of metal rings on my teeth, counting numbers like 14..15..to fit my molars. Alas, they were fitted in, and glued, and my first, closest, pre-braces experience.

A little bit of skin on the bottom row from the cheeks seems to have been rubbed off. Hopefully no ulcers! Eating is going to be quite the chore since I can't really close my bite. My right molars close up and my left has a little gap. In fact, the right side feels.."thick" or like something "in-between" my teeth when I put. Gotta raise this up next week. My actual braces next Thursday! Can't wait.

Before:
Teeth with seperators

After:
The first signs of a braces treatment!
The lines in blue are apparently the anchorage point or the bands for the braces.

Be back for more updates next week!

Start of Braces Treatment!

I'm starting my braces treatment at Alfred's Orthodontics at Mt.E today! Had my seperators put on between my each of the 2 molars and had xray done.

Will keep a log every week for the first 8 weeks, followed by monthly(hopefully faithfully) logs.
Well for starters, the seperators feel like a piece of meat or peanut stuck between the molars in a painful and kao-way(weird/uncomfortable way). Of course, I'll try to persuade my dear to be the one posting...since i roughly got the idea from another blog(credits to http://bracesprogress.blogspot.com/). Photos photos:
I know..this one looks abit gross..but who cares :) i'll post one before and after braces pic next week when it's up :)
